Extra Business Program

Before talking about the Business Extra Corporate Card, we must first talk about the Extra Business Program. Business Extra is a travel loyalty program offered to companies with two or more employees who travel with American Airlines or their partners: British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Finnair and Qantas.

Companies do not need the Business Extra Corporate Card to take advantage of the Business Extra program. All Business Extra members can earn a Business Extra point for every $ 5 spent on the base airfare of qualifying American Airlines flights.

But where you get the most value is when you combine the American Express Business Extra Corporate Card with your Business Extra membership. You will still get the same Business Extra point for $ 5 spent on airline tickets, but with additional rewards which we will discuss in the next section.

Earn rewards

American Express Business Extra Corporate Card members have several ways to earn rewards. First, just like other Business Extra members, the airline will earn a Business Extra point for every $ 5 spent on the base airfare of qualifying American Airlines flights. Additionally, the business will earn one point for every $ 20 spent on other qualifying expenses.

Companies that use Business Extra Corporate cards can also get up to 6% off the first $ 1,500,000 spent on qualifying airline tickets from US airlines each year. The discount will only be 4% if, during the relevant quarter, the business has not used a rate discount program negotiated by the business or agency. But if they meet this requirement, they will earn the additional 2%. It is important to note that in order to receive your rebate, you will need to complete a rebate request form.

Finally, cardholders can get a $ 50 discount on AA flights for every $ 5,000 of qualifying charge on their card. Discounts on flights are capped at $ 1,000. Unlike other rewards offered by this card, flight discounts are awarded to the employee, not the company.

Redeem rewards

Business Extra points can be redeemed for a variety of travel rewards for companies and employees. You will only need 150 points to start redeeming, and here are some of the ways you can redeem your Business Extra points:

  • Award tickets: you can either redeem your points for a flight certificate to be used later, or redeem your points for travel by booking your flight through Business Extra.

  • Upgrade Awards: When you book an American Airlines flight, you can use your Business Extra points for upgrades such as US domestic upgrades for a segment, international upgrades for one-way full fare, or international upgrades for one-way at a reduced rate.

  • Club and Status Rewards: You can redeem your Business Extra points for Admirals Club access, either for a day pass or for a one year membership. You can also upgrade to AAdvantage Gold or Platinum status.

  • Carbon Offset Rewards: Environmentally conscious companies can choose to use their Business Extra points to purchase carbon offsets, which offset the carbon emissions from your business trips. You can purchase carbon offset reward certificates in the amount of 300 Business Extra points.

  • AAdvantage Miles: Finally, you can convert your Business Extra points into AAdvantage miles to transfer to individual travelers. These miles can be used for flights, upgrades, hotels, rental cars, vacations, etc.

Who is this card for?

This American Express card is well suited for companies that spend a lot of money on travel and travel primarily with American Airlines. The card offers rewards for the benefit of both the company and the employee, which means everyone wins. And while there is a $ 75 fee per cardholder, it’s paltry compared to the potential rewards you can earn – and even the annual fees charged on many other business credit cards.

This card may also be suitable for companies that want to reward their employees as much as themselves. Not only does the company collect Business Extra points, but the employee earns discounts on flights and can continue to earn AAdvantage miles on flights booked with Business Extra points.

It’s important to note that the signup process for this card is a bit different from other business credit cards you may have encountered. Rather than completing an online application, you fill out a short form and share your contact details. Then, a business program specialist will call you to determine if this card is right for you.
